My summer plans

For some time, there is one thing I’ve really been wanting: a dedicated camera. Cameras, however, are quite expensive! So, simply put, my goal for this summer is to save up for a specific camera.

Exiting my unemployment era

Off and on for the past year, I’ve been looking for a job in tech. The search has proven to be much more challenging than I expected.

After going through multiple rounds of interviews at a number of organizations, I reached a point where I felt like my time was being wasted and even disrespected in some cases. I figured it might be time — for now — to apply to any job, not just those in tech.

As it so happens, I came across a few Amazon delivery driver POV videos on YouTube. After going down that YouTube rabbit hole, I ultimately decided to apply to a local Amazon DSP (Delivery Service Partner). Within just days of applying, I had begun onboarding.

Delivering ‘smiles’ :)))

At the time of writing, I’ve completed my first week of solo deliveries. It’s definitely hard work, but it’s also kind of fun. Listening to music and podcasts while working also makes it more enjoyable.

So far, my favorite route has been the one that took me through the countryside.

Interior view from the driver’s seat of a Rivian Fleet delivery van: a black steering wheel in the foreground, a dashboard screen displaying a navigation map, and a reusable water bottle in a cupholder on the left. Beyond the windshield stretches a straight, sunlit dirt road bordered by green grass, wildflowers, dense trees on the left, and a wire fence on the right under a partly cloudy sky. A person wearing a fingerless navy sun glove reaches out to gently stroke the head of a light brown cow.

One reason I decided to take up this job is becuase I figured driving all around would be perfect for photography location scouting — and it is! As well, driving the Rivian EDV is a lot of fun. I’ve never driven an electric vehicle before, so it’s quite novel to me.

The camera I want

I want the Sony A7CR with the 24-50 2.8 G lens. Quite the expensive kit, and definitely overkill for my first dedicated camera, but it’s what I want :)

Considering I already have quite the amazing camera on my iPhone 16 Pro, I’m not expecting a fancy camera to to magically improve my photography. However, I do think a dedicated camera will allow me to dive deeper into photography and have more fun with it.

My inspirations

Once I have the camera, I want to regularly take mini vacations to various places around my state — places I would’ve otherwise never visited.

I’m really inspired by YouTube creators James Popsys and Andrew Lanxon — both of whom travel mostly around their respective regions, using photography as a reason to explore.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I’m working full-time as an Amazon DSP delivery driver, and for the next month or so every dollar I earn will be going directly to Sony :p
