Microblog

Welcome to my microblog — my place to share quick updates and musings in a tweet-like fashion. Externally, my microblog is available as a JSON feed. In addition, I make an effort to cross-post to Bluesky.

As both a driver/dispatcher for an Amazon DSP and a web developer, it’s been very interesting to witness how the AWS outage has affected Amazon Logistics.

Love how after going through the PowerShell trenches, power cycling my desktop is what fixed its network connectivity >_<*

I’ll be doing a lot more flight simming now that I have FsHub set up; the daily flight challenges are quite engaging.

I have a bit of a tradition: eating a pint of ice cream alongside my first listen of a new Taylor Swift album. For The Life of a Showgirl, I’m having a lemon lavender pint from a local shop.

A hand holds a pint of Calliope lemon lavender ice cream with a white lid and red lettering reading “food.love.fun. Madison, WI.” In the background, a computer screen displays Taylor Swift’s album The Life of a Showgirl in the Apple Music for Windows interface.

I’m disappointed with the new Sleep Score feature apart of watchOS 26. Even with what I would consider a poor night of sleep, I’ll still score at least “high.” The scoring system is too generous and doesn’t factor in enough data points.

I just sold my 40-series graphics card for more than I bought it for a few months ago. The GPU market is so dumb lol

It took me four hours to enable hardware encryption via BitLocker on my new Samsung M.2 drives. I got these drives specifically for their hardware encryption capabilities — so I was determined to get it working — but at least some documentation would’ve been nice!

I changed the icon of my Thunderbolt drive to match its real appearance! One of OWC’s product photos happened to be about the same perspective as the new macOS Tahoe disk icons, making this possible.

Screenshot of a Mac desktop showing an external drive named 1M2 with a custom icon that matches the OWC drive’s real appearance.

Over the last six months or so I’ve had my temperature settings set to celsius with the intent of developing an intuition and a possible preference for it.

Realizing that—after all this time—I still don’t have a good feel for celsius, I’ve just reverted my settings back to fahrenheit. It’ll be nice to not type e.g., “22c” into Spotlight search every so often.

At last, I’ve acquired the Sony α7CR with the FE 24-50mm ƒ/2.8 G lens!!!!!!!

Yesterday—after a frustrating experience with FedEx—I got my camera set up, updated the firmware, etc. Today, I had some time to go on a walk and actually take some photos. I had A LOT of out-of-focus shots lol, but these two are my favorite from my time shooting today:

📷:
A simple wooden bench with angled legs sits on a patch of sunlit grass, partially surrounded by dense green foliage. The light highlights the bench’s natural wood grain, contrasting with the shaded forest backdrop.

📷:
Close-up black and white image of a large leaf with a jagged hole in its center, droplets of water scattered across its surface. The torn section reveals blurred foliage in the background, adding depth and contrast to the scene.

Excited to start reading :)

Flexibound book titled "The Three-Body Problem Trilogy" by Cixin Liu, featuring minimalist orbital path designs in teal and white on a black cover.

(I’m tired of waiting for season 2 of the Netflix show lol)

Fun fact: my domain is technically in the Chromium source code.

Screenshot of the Chromium source code showing the file transport_security_state_static.json, which contains entries for HSTS-preloaded domains. The domain “vandor.sx” is highlighted in yellow within the JSON file, indicating its inclusion in the HSTS preload list.

(I just discovered the HSTS preload list is simply a very long JSON file that gets bulk updated about once a month)

📷 I love delivering to this house; I park right in front of these lush arches and step directly into a beautiful garden.

A garden pathway made of light brick pavers leads through a lush green archway covered in vines. Centered beyond the arch is an ornate stone fountain surrounded by a circular bed of river rocks and flowering plants.

I somehow only now noticed my car has small kilometer-per-hour markings on the speedometer gauge.

Helpful for if I ever drive up to Canada, which I’d like to do someday (it’s only a day’s drive)!

Google deactivated my account that had the 15-month student trial of Gemini Pro — and I’m a bit bitter about that :p

Snippet of an email from OpenAI. It reads, “You’ve successfully subscribed to ChatGPT Plus.”

📷 I’ve been curious about the view from the skywalk of this building, and the other day I got the opportunity to check it out! Though I must admit, it looks more impressive from the freeway outside.

A black and white photo looking down a long, enclosed skywalk. Large windows line both sides of the hallway, showing trees and buildings outside. The perspective creates leading lines that draw the eye to an elevator at the end of the hall. A folded package delivery tote lays against the left wall.

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce I have purchased an Adobe license. This follows my decade-long spree of pirating and manipulating free trials 🤫

In all seriousness, Newegg (of all places) is selling a bundle license for Lightroom + Photoshop for $95, which I think is quite reasonable.

I just ordered an expensive pillow, but I’m fully prepared to return it if it doesn’t meet my high expectations.

There’s nothing I particularly dislike about my current and long-standing cheap pillow, but I feel like something better has the potential to be a huge QOL improvement.

📷 A photo I took on my delivery route today. It was cool to see the storm clouds slowly roll in through the evening.

A single, large white wind turbine stands tall against a dark, stormy grey sky. The turbine's three blades are angled, suggesting it's moving slowly. The lower third of the image shows a line of vibrant green treetops, contrasting with the dramatic sky and the stark white of the turbine.

I just watched a 32 minute AI-produced video and I didn’t realize until I read the comments. I’m shocked, disgusted, and embarrassed!

It wasn’t overtly obvious as it used real stock footage, but in hindsight the script and thumbnail are clearly AI.

Unseen New Hampshire” is the video. I just wanted to learn about NH while I ate dinner :((
